Project Info

To achieve their vision for the site, the owners of the Strathearn Heights Apartments are looking to the best examples of urban development and are working with the Strathearn community to gather their views on what this development might achieve and how it can integrate into the neighbourhood.

The owners already have a 56-year investment in Strathearn. Built in 1950-51, the Strathearn Heights Apartments were considered a significant leap in urban design for the time. The renowned city planner Noel Dant designed an elegant neighbourhood with curved streets, integrated land uses and an unmatched view of downtown and the river valley.

The owners are committed to continuing the same themes in the new redevelopment while remaining active in the community for many more decades. They are committed to investing the time and resources required to support the renewal of the community so it will thrive for years to come.

The redevelopment, to occur in several phases over five to seven years to ease the impact of change, would build on the community's current amenities to become a vibrant, beautiful urban village that would feature:

  • a community hub and a central focus point for the community
  • a central public common for use by the whole community that complements and connects with a variety of other neighbourhood public places
  • enhanced recreational amenities
  • a diverse mix of residents from families to seniors
  • a diverse economic mix of condominium and rental units
  • a modest expansion to neighbourhood focused retail
  • front doors on the street in keeping with the existing neighbourhood
  • "eyes on the park" green space strengthening the safety and security of the neighbourhood
  • a walkable community establishing and enhancing connections within the community to transit stops and to the river valley
