Community residents have shown interest in the proposed retail development along 95 Avenue and 88 Street up to the corner at the new park. Questions and issues identified have included:
An enhanced retail area would support the concept of a Strathearn "urban village," an active, walkable community that services the routine needs of its residents and offers opportunities for frequent interaction. The proposed retail development would cater to the needs of Strathearn residents and would not be intended to attract shoppers from other parts of the city.
At present, the concept envisions shops and services such as a daycare centre, drycleaner, art gallery, bistro, café, spa, bakery, flower shop, salon, bank and a Saturday market although these services have not yet been confirmed.
Underground parking would be provided as required by the City of Edmonton.
The proposal would increase the size of the retail component by 10,000 net square feet.
